Margaret Thatcher has died. She will be deeply missed.

Former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher died earlier today. It is truly sad news.

This is Thatcher on the euro:

“The European single currency is bound to fail, economically, politically and indeed socially, though the timing, occasion and full consequences are all necessarily still unclear.”

  1. Very sad indeed. Another prophetic euro quote: “Europe is not based on a common language, culture and values. Europe is the result of plans. … It is in fact, a classic utopian project, a monument to the vanity of intellectuals, a programme whose inevitable destiny is failure; only the scale of the final damage done is in doubt.”

Not one obituary programme in the UK has yet pointed out that on Europe she was right and those in her own Government who stabbed her in the bank were wrong. The Howe’s, the Lawson’s, the Heseltine’s all seem to be listened to with respect. It’s a strange thing we are seeing over here.

Still not as strange as those latest Danish inflation numbers. Is YoY CPI now well below 1%? A train wreck, and Denmark’s not even in the Euro and has its own independent central bank. Is there no debate on breaking free of the peg and saving yourselves?
